The Atebubu Traditional Council, led by HRM Ohempon Dr. Yeboah Asiamah – Atebubumanhene and President of the Council, has officially communicated its firm position regarding the annual movement, grazing, and keeping of cattle within the Atebubu Traditional Area, particularly by Fulani herdsmen.
In a written statement, the Council stated, “The Atebubu Traditional Council does not accept nor approve the annual movement, grazing, or permanent keeping of cattle within the Traditional Area.” This declaration comes as a response to the increasing presence of Fulani herdsmen and their cattle within the Traditional Area, causing tensions and conflicts with the local community.

The Council’s decision is based on several factors, including the environmental impact of cattle grazing on the land, the destruction of crops and farmlands by the cattle, and the potential spread of diseases from the cattle to the local population. Additionally, the Council is concerned about the safety and security of the residents of the Traditional Area, as conflicts between Fulani herdsmen and local farmers have escalated in recent years.

Furthermore, the Council emphasized that the Traditional Area is not designated for cattle grazing or keeping, and that any such activities are in violation of the laws and customs of the Atebubu community. The Council called on all Fulani herdsmen and Agents to respect the decision of the Traditional Council and to cease all activities related to cattle grazing and keeping within the Traditional Area.

The Atebubu Traditional Council’s firm position on the annual movement, grazing, and keeping of cattle within the Traditional Area is a necessary step to protect the environment, ensure the safety and security of the residents, and uphold the customs and traditions of the Atebubu community. The Council’s decision should be respected and adhered to by all parties involved, in order to maintain peace and harmony within the Traditional Area.
