Professor Camara Kwasi Obeng, a lecturer at the University of Cape Coast and a native of Atebubu, recently made a generous donation to support the Readwide Achievers Society and the Ghana Library Authority in Atebubu. During a visit to the Atebubu Amantin Municipal Library, Professor Obeng took the opportunity to share his own story as an example for the young members of the Readwide Achievers Society who were present.
Professor Obeng began his education at Sunyani Barracks School due to his father’s military background, and later attended Atebubu Senior Secondary School. Despite having the opportunity to attend any school of his choice, he chose to continue his education at Atebubu Senior Secondary School. His dedication and hard work paid off, as he excelled in his studies and eventually gained admission to the University of Cape Coast. His success was a surprise to many, given his background and the challenges he faced along the way.
During his visit to the library, Professor Obeng donated 30 reading books that he had collected from friends, as well as a generous amount of money to support the programs of the Readwide Achievers Society. Mr. Michael Yaw Owusu, the founder of the Readwide Achievers Society, expressed his gratitude to Professor Obeng and promised to use the funds to pay off the organization’s debts at local radio stations. The Readwide Achievers Society runs a weekend radio program called Readwide Hour on Star FM and Customer FM in Atebubu, and the donation will help ensure the program can continue to reach and inspire more young people in the community.
In his speech, Professor Obeng encouraged the young members of the Readwide Achievers Society to take their education seriously and to make the most of the opportunities available to them. He emphasized the importance of reading and learning, and urged the students to follow the example set by their leader, Mr. Owusu. By supporting initiatives like Readwide, Professor Obeng hopes to inspire and empower the next generation of leaders in Atebubu and beyond.
