Atebubumanhemaa to initiate Nkyifie Festival on Saturday

The Queen Mother of Atebubu Traditional Council, Nana Afia Donyina II, will launch the Nkyifie Festival on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at the Atebubu Palace.
The Nkyifie Festival is one of the most important festivals, as it marks the beginning of the traditional calendar. The festival is celebrated to cleanse the town from misfortunes, sins, and other negative influences.

The festival involves a 40-day period of silence and abstinence, during which noisy-making activities are prohibited and sacred cleansing rituals are performed. The Queen Mother and other sub-chiefs will also isolate themselves from some groups of people and communicate only through messengers.
The festival will culminate in a grand ceremony on the 40th day, when the Queen Mother and other sub-chiefs will walk through the town to perform the final cleansing rites. The public is advised to respect the rules of the festival and avoid any confrontation with the royal entourage. Anyone who violates the rules will face severe consequences.
Bull Catching is an intriguing traditional practice. A drunkard bull is caught bare-handed by those who have faith in themselves. The victorious person claims the bull’s head as a prize. It’s a captivating event that shouldn’t be overlooked.

The Nkyifie Festival is a rich cultural heritage of the people of Atebubu, and it showcases their values, beliefs, and traditions. The festival also promotes unity, peace, and development in the town. The Queen Mother invites all sons and daughters of Atebubu, as well as visitors and tourists, to join in the celebration of the festival.
